#16 | Mike Hewson
LoveArt is pleased to present the sixteenth iteration of our nano project space, Love[f]Art, with a project by Mike Hewson.
Mike Hewson is a Sydney-based artist whose practice sits at the intersection of conceptual art, structural engineering, and public space. Holding a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the University of Canterbury and a Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University, New York, his practice was catalysed by the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. Acclaimed for large-scale public commissions across Australia and beyond, his award-winning projects blur the boundaries between sculpture, playground, and commons — inviting participation over observation. Most recently, he transformed the Nelson Packer Tank at the Art Gallery of New South Wales with his major solo exhibition, The Key's Under the Mat (2025-2026).

EXHIBITION INFO
In this latest iteration of Mike Hewson’s GeoPet series, an elite fleet of his bejewelled brick buddies enter their bathroom era as potty pests. Clustered around Amanda Love’s porcelain throne on a custom-build aluminium shelf, their companionship is cutie and nosey; with crossed gemstone eyes they curiously shuffle up close.
These are relics of Hewson’s studio, where trash and treasure merge in a playful mashup. The friendly sculptures reconfigure vitrified 100 year old coke oven bricks with crystals, rare gems and homewares to spirited effect.
This second batch are priced S, M, L and XL following their sell-out debut with Lett Thomas at Sydney Contemporary 2025, then priced-by-the-kg with daily price increases. Don’t miss out on the TJ Maxx-esque priced access to Hewson’s work following the blockbuster show at Art Gallery New South Wales The Key’s Under The Mat.
