Making figures within a landscape, mental landscapes, where the figure in only part of what’s happening – that’s where this new work is different. Previously the figure would dominate the whole picture plane, the self taking over the mental space. Now there’s an acceptance that the rest of the world has to come in - as when we dream, there is no control where our minds go, we are just taken, and the figure is infinitely small in comparison to the landscape of our dreams.
